CHRISTIANS TARGETED IN PRO-MORSI VIOLENCE IN EGYPT

At Least Two Coptic Christians Killed;
27 Church Buildings Attacked

Middle East Correspondent, Morning Star News — (CAIRO, EGYPT) In the violence that exploded across Egypt today, supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi attacked scores of church buildings and Christian-owned homes and businesses in response to national security forces breaking up two protest camps in downtown Cairo.

At least two Coptic Christians were killed in the reprisal attacks, which started mid-morning after the armed break-up of the camps the Muslim Brotherhood and others had occupied in downtown Cairo for six weeks. Pro-Morsi assailants attacked 27 church buildings, setting fires that gutted most of them, according to the Coptic Watani Weekly; the government reported attacks on only seven Coptic churches.

The assailants attacked a women-only monastery along with at least two Christian schools and set at least 30 Coptic-owned homes across the country on fire, along with scores of businesses. They also destroyed three Bible Society stores in Egypt, sources said.

Wael Ibrahim, manager of the Assuit branch of the Egyptian Bible Society, watched helplessly from a distance as a group of Morsi supporters circled his store several times at 9:15 a.m., threatening to attack any Christian who approached. He left only to receive a cell phone call informing him that his store was on fire.

“I watched from afar, and I saw the Muslim Brotherhood people divide up into teams of 10 to attack anyone who approached the store,” Ibrahim said. “I eventually left and I called the police because it was all I could do. I left, and half an hour later I got a call, and someone told me the Bible Society was on fire, so I quickly went back. But I couldn’t get close enough to defend the place.”

Ibrahim said he watched the Bible Society structure burn down, and then the mob set fire, one-by-one, to every Christian-owned store in the area.

“They didn’t just attack the store, they attacked the café and every store on the street that had any connection with Christians – they destroyed so many stores,” he said, adding that the Bible Society lost all merchandise and literature. “All the books were burned. There is nothing left.”

Nationwide, two Christians have been confirmed killed – Iskander Rizk Allah from Delga in Minya Governorate, said to be in his 60s, and Rami Zakria of Alexandria, of whom little was immediately known. The circumstances of Rizk Allah’s murder have not been released. According to human rights workers, Zakria was shot.

A pastor and his wife were kidnapped from their Seventh-day Adventist church in Assuit, According to Watani, but the report could not be independently confirmed.

Today’s violence in several cities constituted the largest assault on the Christian community in Egypt, though the number of casualties is still unknown. Overall, 235 civilians died and more than 1,000 were injured, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry. Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim, reportedly saying Morsi supporters attacked 21 police stations and seven Coptic Christian churches, said 43 policemen also died.

Early this morning security attacked protestors at the camps they had occupied in Nasr City, an area of Cairo, since the first week on July. With the Army standing by, the non-military security forces began using tear gas and bulldozers, but then quickly moved on to firearms, including long-range rifles, in what they said was a response to shooting by protestors. The security forces denied using lethal force, but several journalists documented deaths from gunfire. Numerous human rights observers have characterized the clearing of the camp as a “blood bath.”

Those gathered at the camp, which included entire families, were protesting the July 3 ouster of former president Morsi, who was deposed by the military after massive nationwide protests. Millions had gathered to protest the way Morsi consolidated power among his Islamist base despite promises not to do so, alleged corruption, his handling of the economy and a trend toward ruling by unilateral and possibly illegal edicts.

Attacks on Christians

Prior to the attack on the camp, leaders in the Muslim Brotherhood warned that if it were broken up, Christians would be attacked.

Immediately before and after Morsi’s ouster, his supporters had repeatedly blamed the Christian minority for the protests that led to his removal from office. In sermons across the country, numerous imams called for Christians to be attacked, according to human rights activists.

“I believe they are angry because they created a story where the Christians are to blame for the collapse of Morsi,” said one evangelical Coptic lay pastor who requested anonymity. “Before the protest, we were only 7 percent of the population and not worth paying attention to. But suddenly during the protest, we ballooned into 33 million people and were the only ones at any of the protests. No Muslims, no secular people, just us.”

The timing of the attacks has led many Copts to speculate that they were planned and not spontaneous.

“It had to be pre-planned,” the pastor said about the attack on The Church of Mar-Girgis in Assuit. “It happened at the exact time the attacks happened in Cairo.”

The attacks were scattered across the country, from The Church of Mar-Girgis, which was attacked in Arish in the northeast Sinai Peninsula, to a handful of churches in Giza outside of Cairo, to churches and religious facilities in Upper Egypt. Most of the attacks happened in Minya Governorate, with the city of Assuit following close behind. The attacks happened across theological lines; it appears no denomination was spared.

The government has ordered a curfew in most cities and declared a “state of emergency,” a form of martial law. Copts are responding to the attacks with a mixture of sadness, fear and anger. Part of the anger, said Mina Thabet, spokesman of the Maspero Students Union, is the belief that the world has abandoned the Copts.

“They just can’t see the Copts are a religious minority who are being attacked,” he said. “They’re attacking, killing, burning … And some [Copts] have nothing left. I am afraid for the coming days. The [Western governments] have left us unsecured. I think it’s the next form of genocide.”

The attacks on the church buildings have devastated the Copts most of all, even more than the attacks on their homes and businesses, Ibrahim said.

“I’m very sad – everyone is very sad,” he said. “They’re not just attacking Coptic-owned businesses, they are attacking our churches. It’s not only one; it’s four if not more. But we know God is protecting his word. [Everyone] is very scared. Everyone is staying at home, especially because of the curfew. Now nobody knows what is going on outside – but we will see in the morning.” » Full Article

REPORTS: PASSPORT LINKS BENGHAZI TO EGYPT

Stevens’ Alleged Killer Traced
To Muslim Brotherhood Official

Michael Carl, WND — A passport belonging to the alleged killer of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens has been recovered at the home of Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood deputy leader Khairat Al-Shater, according to Arabic-language reports from the Middle East.

The reports say the passport was found when Egyptian security forces arrested Al-Shater after the ouster of Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi.

Walid Shoebat, a former PLO operative who is now an analyst of Islam and terrorism, said Arabic language sources El-Fagr and Alrassedalliby.com reported the recovery of the passport of Muhsin Al-Azazi, Stevens’ alleged killer.

The Russian language news site Globe News 24 also reported the find, according to

a Ukraine-based security officer and intelligence analyst who works for a defense and security firm.

Shoebat says it’s possible that Stevens’ passport is in Egypt, but the reports needs further confirmation.

Fox News’ Cynthia Farahat reported that prominent Egyptian television personality Ahmed Moussa tied the Benghazi attack to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

On his television show, he addressed the U. S. ambassador to Egypt, Anne Patterson, in abstentia, regarding Stevens’ killer.

“Ambassador Stevens was killed in Benghazi, and you know who killed him, the U.S. administration knows who killed him, and you know how he was killed ,and it was a major strike against the U.S. administration, and all of you,” Moussa said on his show.

“The assassin is now present at Rabia Al-Adawiya [mosque protest]. His name is, do you know it or you would like me to inform you? He’s affiliated with al-Qaida in Libya, his name is Mohsen Al-Azazi, his passport was found in the house of Khairat El-Shater.”

Farahat noted Moussa is a well-regarded source who often interviews intelligence agents and high-ranking military personnel on his show and is renowned for breaking intelligence-related news.

Benghazi-Brotherhood Link?

Shoebat said the new reports establish a credible link between the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, and the Muslim Brotherhood.

“This confirms what a Libyan intelligence document said,” according to Shoebat.

He noted further that Al-Shater’s son told reporters his father “holds secrets” on President Obama that would land him in prison if made public, as WND reported Wednesday.

Shoebat also said in a published report that the U.S. government knows there is a connection between the Benghazi attack and the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.

“U.S. officials and experts do acknowledge an Egyptian connection to the Benghazi attacks. They’ll point to what they call a ragtag group of jihadists, led by Muhammad Jamal Abdo Al-Kashif (aka Abu Ahmad), known as the Jamal network,” he wrote.

“However, the U.S. administration downplays this Egyptian connection, whereas several Arabic-language sources reveal a much larger connection. It is significant to point out that the first attack against the U.S. embassies on Sept. 11, 2012, happened in Cairo. Egypt was the spark and Egyptians were the agents of both attacks,” said Shoebat.

Shoebat noted that Morsi let al-Kashif out of prison right before Sept. 11, 2012.

“Al-Kashif had been locked up in one of Egypt’s most secure prisons, but he was released by deposed president Mohamed Morsi prior to the attacks. Al-Kashif had been Osama bin Laden’s bodyguard. Morsi was the primary agent behind his release,” Shoebat wrote.

Clare Lopez, senior fellow at the Center for Security Policy in Washington, D.C., is skeptical of the reports because of President Obama’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

“In the fall of 2012, both the blind sheik’s group and the Egyptian MB had every reason to be hopeful that the Obama administration would eventually accede to their persistent demands to release the blind sheik,” Lopez said.

“After all, Hani Nour Eldin had been received in the White House in June 2012, and Morsi was in power at least in part thanks to the support of the Obama administration, which was and remains totally in the bag for the MB,” Lopez said.

Lopez said it doesn’t make sense that Morsi “would endorse or back in any way a murderous assault on our mission in Libya.”

Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies fellow Benedetta Berti comes down on Lopez’ side.

“I would be very skeptical,” Berti said. “The Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaida affiliated groups, they’re two different groups, and they don’t really work together. There is an Islamist position, but within that you have different factions,” Berti said.

“The more inspired al-Qaida factions don’t really get along with the mainstream Muslim Brotherhood. Yes, they help one another when it comes to fighting the infidels,” Berti said.

Lopez said there’s an entire “industry” of conspiracy theorists who are trying to connect the Muslim Brotherhood to Benghazi.

She said “it is being led by a clutch of Copts, who certainly have every reason to hate them all, but who are pushing a narrative that is lacking in corroboration or verifiable sourcing.”

However, Shoebat is firm. He writes in a report that Arabic sources clearly indicate Morsi and the Brotherhood’s involvement in the Benghazi attacks.

Reports said a leaked Libyan intelligence document from just days after the terror attack also implicates Morsi. The document states that Ansar al-Shariah’s Egypt branch, led by Marjan Salem, was the main player, not the Libyan branch.

“The initial investigation shows that the membership of the group [belongs] to the jihadist group Ansar al-Shariah in Egypt which was established and led by Egyptian cleric Marjan Salem,” Shoebat wrote.

“The most distinguished names that were obtained from the confessions by members of the cell are the president of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi, Safwat Hijazy and Saudi businessman Mansour Bin Kadasa, the owner of Al-Nas TV station.”

OBAMA TO SIGN UN ARMS TREATY THIS MONTH WHILE CONGRESS IS IN RECESS!

Dan Cannon, The Daily Caller — (Guns and Gear) President Obama will move forward with adding his signature to the UN Arms Treaty before the end of this month according to Press Secretary Jay Carney.

It is feared and predicted by many gun rights groups and advocates that the treaty, if ratified, could open up the US gun market to international regulation.

According to a letter written by CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gotlieb,

The uncertainty begins in the discussion of small arms. Where will the regulations on our small arms start, and where will they stop? They are even trying to include ammunition regulations in the Arms Trade Treaty! Will the United Nations try to impose international licensing requirements, an international registry, or international?

The last negotiations for an Arms Trade Treaty took place in July 2012, just four months before the Presidential election. Obama did not want to take a big stance for global gun control just months before his re-election but now he has made it clear he is for total gun control. He also told voters he would not be re-visiting negotiations for an Arms Trade treaty but here we are.

Since his re-election it has become clearer than ever what is at the top of his agenda; taking our guns away! The Obama Administration has been exploiting tragedies since the election to push gun control at the city, state, federal, and now GLOBAL level.

Our Senate took a stance before the Presidential election when 51 of them wrote Obama a letter saying they would not support an Arms Trade Treaty. We must let our entire U.S. Senate know we do not support international gun control. They must not ratify this international treaty.

Despite Obama’s pending signature, don’t panic just yet. The treaty must also be ratified by the Senate, which is unlikely to happen in the immediate future.

In fact, in March, the Senate voted to keep the US out of the arms treaty by a vote of 53-46.

RUSH: Senator Cruz, I know you’re limited time here. Thanks very much for joining us. How are you today, sir?

CRUZ: Rush, I’m doing terrific, and it is always a real privilege and honor to join you.

RUSH: Well, I’m glad to have you here. There’s a big argument. Let’s just cut to the chase here on Obamacare. The arguments are: Delay it/defund it. You’re part of the defund it side. You think it can happen via the continuing resolution debate the end of September. The delay crowd and the people opposed to this say, “No, no, no! A government shutdown’s part of this and look what happened the last time the government was shut down in ’95. Look what happened to Republicans then.” How do you deal with this? What do you tell people that raise these objections?

CRUZ: Well, part of the problem with the delay crowd is they don’t have a plan to actually get it done. When they say they want to delay it, what they really mean is they want to take a symbolic vote on a delay but not tie it to anything that has to pass. So the House can take a thousand symbolic votes if they want. Harry Reid will not allow any of them to pass into law. So it becomes an exercise of just political cover rather than actually fixing the problem.

Look, Rush, Obamacare, as you know, is the biggest job killer in the country, and the wheels are falling off of this thing. I mean, there is bipartisan agreement it’s not working. The unions are jumping ship. People are losing their jobs. They’re having their hours forcibly reduced. Just last week UPS told 18,000 employees, “You’re losing your spousal coverage. Your husbands and wives are losing their health insurance because of Obamacare.”

And unfortunately right now, Republicans are still not ready to stand up and do what it takes to stop this law, to listen to the American people and say, “Listen, let’s get rid of this job killer.” The only plan that has been put forward that has any realistic prospect of success, of actually stopping Obamacare, is using the continuing resolution on September 30th and saying, “We will not fund one penny of Obamacare.”

If we can get 41 Republicans in the Senate to do that, or 218 Republicans in the House, we have the votes to do it, but we gotta get those votes — and right now, far too many Republicans are scared of this fight. » Read Full Transcript At ‘The Rush Limbaugh Show’

On this day in 1945, Emperor Hirohito broadcasts the news of Japan's surrender to the Japanese people.
