THE FINAL BABYLON

“Keep Looking Up”

“Gary is joined by Doug Woodward as they discuss The Final Babylon.”

Babylon Is Fallen, Is Fallen
And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

Babylon Destroyed With Nuclear Weapons In One Day?
And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. ~ Revelation 18:2-8

DAMASCUS, SYRIA UNDER SIEGE! A BIBLE PROPHECY

Bible Prophecy: Damascus Ceases To Be A City

Bill Salus, Prophecy Depot Ministries Once upon a long time ago, the Hebrew prophet Isaiah predicted that the Syrian capital city of Damascus would someday cease to exist. Isaiah, whose prophetic ministry spanned between 740 – 701 BC declared that it would be reduced to rubble. Some scholars believe this prophecy found fulfillment around 732 BC, shortly after Isaiah presaged it, when the Assyrians conquered Aram. Aram was the ancient name for much of modern day Syria.

But if it was fulfilled then, why did Jeremiah predict a similar scenario over a century later? And, why did Isaiah mention Assyria 37 times throughout his 66 chapters, but never once mention it in Isaiah 17. For instance Isaiah 8:3-7 clearly identifies an Assyrian conquest of Damascus. This found fulfillment in Isaiah’s lifetime, but Damascus still exists today. Furthermore the article below points out that Israel seemingly downs Damascus and that it appears to be an overnight destruction.

The relevant passages concerning the future of Damascus are located in Isaiah 17:1-14 and Jeremiah 49:23-27. Below are a few excerpts covering the topic from my book called Psalm 83-The Missing Prophecy Revealed, How Israel Becomes the Next Mideast Superower. The book presents an exhaustive verse-by-verse commentary on Isaiah 17 and most of Jeremiah 49. Due to the extensive length of the commentary only portions are inserted in this article, and the endnotes can be ascertained within the book.

Since Damascus survives today as Syria’s second most populated city behind Aleppo, it demonstrates that Damascus never entirely ceased to exist. Therefore, if Isaiah intended his prophecy to be interpreted literally, it remains an unfulfilled prophecy.

ISAIAH 17 - THE BURDEN AGAINST DAMASCUS

“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer are forsaken; they will be for flocks which lie down, and no one will make them afraid.” (Isaiah 17:1-2, nkjv)

These first two verses of Isaiah 17 inform us that Damascus is destined for destruction, causing it to cease from being a city. Additionally other cities “of Aroer” are adversely affected, causing them to be “forsaken.” The Hebrew word used for forsaken is azab, and means abandoned, withdrawn, left behind, released, or neglected.

Since these cities eventually become agriculturally zoned “for flocks,” the best understanding is probably that the destruction of Damascus necessitates the withdrawal of the surrounding city populations, which ultimately leads to their release and rezoning. Whichever government is sovereign over this area at that time, will reevaluate the highest and best use of the territory to be agricultural.

Parson’s Bible Atlas lists three possibilities for Aroer: Aroer Judah, Aroer Sihon, and Aroer Gad. Of the three Aroer Gad becomes the likely option, because it was located nearest to Damascus. Amman, Jordan is within the area of ancient Aroer Gad, and is where most Jordanians live today.

Damascus is located in southern Syria, and the Jordanian capital of Amman is in northern Jordan. Only 109 miles separates the two Arab capitals. Aroer Gad was part of the tribal territory of Gad. Numbers 32 informs us that the tribe of Gad was generally agriculturalists and as such, Gad requested this territory because it was suitable for his sizable flocks. Thus, the destruction of Damascus apparently spills over into northern Jordan, and probably finds a prophetic connection with Jeremiah 49:1-2. If it does, this may suggest that Israel is responsible for the destruction of Damascus.

Read Jeremiah 49:1-2 below.

“Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “That I will cause to be heard an alarm of war In Rabbah of the Ammonites; It shall be a desolate mound, And her villages shall be burned with fire. Then Israel shall take possession of his inheritance,” says the LORD.” (nkjv)

The sequence of events could be as follows. Damascus and Rabbah, (Amman) are destroyed, probably in the same war effort. In the aftermath, Israel takes possession of northern Jordan including ancient Aroer, and rezones much it for agricultural purposes. Ammon is a participant in the Psalm 83:6-8 Arab confederacy. Thus, “the alarm of war” in question could possibly be the Psalm 83 war.

If this is so, then the destruction of Isaiah’s Damascus and Jeremiah’s Rabbah are probably closely related Psalm 83 events. Assyria, which comprised part of modern day northern Syria when Psalm 83 was written, is also part of the Arab confederacy.

“The fortress also will cease from Ephraim, The kingdom from Damascus, And the remnant of Syria; They will be as the glory of the children of Israel,” Says the LORD of hosts.” (Isaiah 17:3, nkjv)

As previously mentioned, Assyria conquered Damascus around 732 BC and the “fortress” of Ephraim ceased to exist when the Assyrians conquered the northern kingdom of Israel in 722 BC. This could explain the first part of Isaiah 17:3, but fails to adequately address the latter part, which identifies the remnant of Syria with the glory of the children of Israel, or in some translations the “sons of Israel.” At the time of the Assyrian conquest of Damascus and Ephraim, there was no Syrian “remnant” under Israeli rule, “as the glory of the children of Israel.”

Therefore a dual fulfillment of the prophecy, which commonly occurs in Bible prophecy, may be forthcoming. What Isaiah could be warning about is that strongholds in northern Israel (Ephraim) will become war-torn at the time of Damascus’s destruction. The Syrian refugees (remnant) thereby, become captured by the IDF (children of Israel). Isaiah 17:9 discussed below suggests Israel is responsible for the downing of Damascus. Isaiah concludes verse 3 by informing us; even though Damascus will cease to exist, a remnant of Syrians still survive.

“In that day it shall come to pass That the glory of Jacob will wane, And the fatness of his flesh grow lean. It shall be as when the harvester gathers the grain, And reaps the heads with his arm; It shall be as he who gathers heads of grain In the Valley of Rephaim. Yet gleaning grapes will be left in it, Like the shaking of an olive tree, Two or three olives at the top of the uppermost bough, Four or five in its most fruitful branches, Says the LORD God of Israel.” (Isaiah 17:4-6, nkjv)

These three verses open with “In that day.” Isaiah uses this expression four times throughout the chapter. The fact that he first uses this in verse four suggests that the preceding three verses all serve as the antecedent to the phrase. In other words, “In that day”:

Damascus ceases to be a city (v. 1),
The cities of Aroer are forsaken (v. 2),
The fortress of Ephraim, and kingdom of Damascus ceases (v. 3), and
The Syrian remnant becomes subservient to the glory of the children of Israel (v. 3).

If so, then at the time all the above occurs, Isaiah 17:4-6 finds fulfillment. These verses picture Israel in an undesirable condition, suggesting the Jewish nation comes under attack at that time. Some believe these verses occur at the time of Armageddon, because Israel will suffer severely at that time. The problem with aligning the “in that day,” with Armageddon at the end of the tribulation period is that verse nine clues us otherwise. Isaiah 17:9 informs us that the cities that become forsaken are abandoned because of the Jews. Any cities abandoned during the campaign of Armageddon will be abandoned because of the Antichrist’s war related activities, not Israel’s.

In conjunction with Israel’s suffering, Isaiah 17:4-6 mentions terms, idioms, and locations, like heads of grain, Valley of Rephaim, gleaning grapes, olive tree, olives, uppermost bough, and fruitful branches. These usages suggest there will be casualties in Israel. The Valley of Rephaim, is located in Israel, and is now called el-Bukei’a. This valley was the site of two historic wars the Israelites successfully waged under King David against their arch enemy the Philistines.

Coincidentally, Philistia is listed in Psalm 83. Perhaps Isaiah is telling us that, like David defeated the Philistines in the Valley of Rephaim, so will a lean and waning war-torn Israel bring about the destruction of Damascus before or during the Psalm 83 war episode. But, Jewish genocide will be averted as Jews will survive in northern Israel (uppermost bough), and even more will survive in the more populated cities (fruitful branches).

“In that day his strong cities will be as a forsaken bough And an uppermost branch, Which they left because of the children of Israel; And there will be desolation.” (Isaiah 17:9, nkjv)

In this verse Damascus is personified by the pronoun “his.” In that day, that destruction of Damascus and “his” strong cities (of Aroer, v. 2) are forsaken; it will be a scene of “desolation.” At the time Damascus meets its doom, it is characterized by “strong cities” about it. It is not a picture of weakness, but of a militarily strong Syria.

The “children of Israel” are responsible for this desolation and these forsaken cities. This verse implies that the IDF may have something to do with the destruction of Damascus. The devastation appears to also extend into cities north of Damascus, identified as “an uppermost branch.”

“Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation, And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold, Therefore you will plant pleasant plants And set out foreign seedlings; In the day you will make your plant to grow, And in the morning you will make your seed to flourish; But the harvest will be a heap of ruins In the day of grief and desperate sorrow. Woe to the multitude of many people Who make a noise like the roar of the seas, And to the rushing of nations That make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters; But God will rebuke them and they will flee far away, And be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, Like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.” (Isaiah 17:10-13, nkjv)

These passages point to Syria assembled amongst a multitude of mighty waters that are rushing like roaring seas. This suggests that Syria, represented by Damascus, comes against Israel forcefully in a confederate effort with other nations. Seas typically represent the Gentile nations, and in this instance they are noisily roaring and rushing like mighty waters.

This pictures a massive military invasion. We can safely assume this invasion is targeted at Israel, because verse 9 implies that Israel retaliates. The fact that they come against Israel evidences they have forgotten the “God of their salvation.” The God of Israel is the God of salvation.

Isaiah says the war campaign results in a “heap of ruins,” and characterizes the whole episode as a “day of grief and desperate sorrow.” Isaiah 17:13 seems to connect with Psalm 83:13-15. In Psalm 83, Asaph petitions the Lord to do what Isaiah 17:13 says occurs to this confederacy. This implies that the destruction of Damascus and desolation of the surrounding cities could be related in some way to the Psalm 83 scenario.

These seemingly connecting portions of scripture both use the same six Hebrew words of galgal, paniym, ruach, har, radaph, and suphah, as comparatively highlighted below.

“O my God, make them like the whirling dust, [galgal] Like the chaff before [paniym] the wind! [ruach] As the fire burns the woods, And as the flame sets the mountains [har] on fire, So pursue [radaph] them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm [suphah].” (Psalm 83:13-15, nkjv)

Compared to Isaiah 17:13 below:

“The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters; But God will rebuke them and they will flee far away, And be chased [radaph] like the chaff of the mountains [har] before [paniym] the wind, [ruach] Like a rolling [galgal] thing before [paniym] the whirlwind [suphah].”

If this is the case, then the nations that rush mightily like many waters are possibly the Psalm 83:6-8 Arab States. If the destruction of Damascus occurs in a related Psalm 83 event, this would help explain why Syria, under the banners of either Aram or Assyria, doesn’t appear listed in the Ezekiel 38:1-6 coalition of Magog invaders.

For the above reasons, and several others pointed out in this section of Psalm 83-The Missing Prophecy Revealed, How Israel Becomes the Next Mideast Superpower, it is reasonable to presume that the destruction of Damascus and the desolation of the surrounding strong cities, finds a correlation to the events prophesied in Psalm 83.

“Then behold, at eventide, trouble! And before the morning, he is no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us, And the lot of those who rob us.” (Isaiah 17:14, nkjv)

Isaiah concludes his oracle against Damascus by describing the length of time it takes for the city to become reduced to rubble. Overnight, this historic city is destroyed. One evening Damascus flourishes, but by the next morning it’s obliterated. This apparently occurs as the penalty portion of Genesis 12:3. Syria’s capital city is reduced to ruins, because Syrians attempted to plunder Israel, probably in Psalm 83. It is a curse-for-curse-in-kind disciplinary duty, outlined in the Lord’s Gentile foreign policy of Genesis 12:3.

The bottom line of Isaiah 17 relevant to these present times, is that it could issue a stern modern day warning that Damascus can presently be destroyed overnight by the weapons technologies Israel presently possesses. Unless Syria changes its hateful disposition toward the nation of Israel soon, humanity could wake up one nearby morning to a flood of Syrian refugees exiting out of the Damascus rubble. » Full Article

On Today’s Show:
Terence Jeffrey is editor in chief of CNSNews.com and has held that position since 2007. Prior to that he served for more than a decade as editor of Human Events.

Should the U.S. take military action against Syria for the gas attack that has been reported by Western media outlets?

According to Terence, prudence is looking at a range of possible actions and deciding on the one that through due diligence will give you the optimum outcome. He believes that President Obama's 'red line' remark regarding Syria wasn't prudent at all because he doesn't have the power to follow through on such rhetoric without congressional authorization. Because of this attitude, Terence feels we are reaping the fruits of a leader who is now moving forward with an imprudent policy rather than using moral means to advance the liberty, security and prosperity of the American people.

Terence brings in the thoughts of Alexander Hamilton and George Washington to help listeners understand how the idea of 'war powers' is to be understood from the perspective of our Constitution. He noted that Congress has the power to control the armed forces. The President has the power of Commander in Chief. This means that after Congress places the armed forces into battle, the president becomes the leading commander. So unless there's the need to repel a sudden attack, the president doesn't have the power to initiate the use of military force.

He also explained the historic significance between the centuries-old taking of Cairo and Damascus and what's happening in those areas today. Muslim activities led them to eventually re-take Jerusalem during the Crusades and today one prominent Islamic voice seems to want to duplicate that process. When you look at what's been happening in recent times to secular government and military forces in Egypt and Syria, forces that have been at least tolerant of Christians, it appears that current U.S. policies regarding the Middle East are only encouraging Islamic forces as they keep their eye on Jerusalem.

“YOU COST AMERICA A GREAT DEAL THIS PAST WEEK, MR. PRESIDENT”

A Citizen’s Take On Syria

Charlie Daniels, Charlie Daniels Soapbox In my soon to be 77 years as a citizen of the United States of America, having lived through Japan's sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, the dark days of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Watergate, 9/11 and all the other serious and profound events our beloved nation has been involved in over the last three quarters of a century, I have to say with all sincerity that I have never seen a president as confused, befuddled, impotent, insincere and as out of his depth as Barack Obama has become in dealing with the Syrian issue.

When you're the leader of the free world, you don't make statements you can't back up and you don't draw lines in the sand, watch your enemies cross them with impunity and go off and play a round of golf.

Obama painted himself and the nation into a corner with his “red line” statement and I truly believe he thought he would have unilateral international and domestic support only to find himself standing alone in the spotlight with egg on his face and a ticking political time bomb in his hand.

I don't believe he ever had any intention of going through Congress and only decided to do so when he was left without the support of traditional allies and the disdain of a war weary American public who have begun to feel that America cannot be the international police force who has to bear the brunt of every catastrophe.

I think Obama is taking the vote for military authorization to Congress to bail himself out, to buy some time, somebody to share the blame if all goes wrong. Obama had already positioned war ships. All that was left to do was give the order to fire the missiles and at the 11th hour, after being rejected by the British parliament and put off by the French, he started having second thoughts and reached for the life preserver.

I, for one, am glad that Obama - for whatever reason - political expediency notwithstanding, did not facilitate the missile attack as it would have been largely symbolic and cosmetic and as he had given Assad enough warning to move the weapons out of harms way would have done little if anything to rid the world of chemical weapons.

It's not that I think nothing should be done about weapons of mass destruction no matter where they're used in the world, but I believe it's not just the responsibility of the United States to enforce international law. If the civilized nations of the world shirk this duty, why should they think America should take on the job by itself?

America has done enough "sending signals", symbolic gestures, getting involved in situations that don't threaten our national interests or that of our allies.

America's leaders should guard their tongues well and not issue spur of the moment reactions and empty threats. Our bite should be a lot worse than our bark and a presidential warning should be a dire and solemn caution, issued only once and followed up with swift and decisive action, not some half-baked puff of bravado that nobody really takes seriously.

What little bit of credibility America had in the Middle East just went out the window Friday afternoon, as a president who let his ego overload his common sense backed down from a tin horned dictator of a third world country, or at least that's how it's viewed in that part of the world.

The mettle of a president and the people he surrounds himself with is not proven until push comes to shove. This nation has entered a new phase in the war on terror and our relativity in the rest of the world and the road is going to be long, rocky and dangerous.

It remains to be seen how this embarrassing situation will play out. Will the president seek the council of the more experienced advice available to him in Congress? Or, will he remain defiant and continue to go it alone.

You've cost America a great deal this past week, Mr. President.

How much more can we take?

What do you think?

Pray for our troops and the peace of Jerusalem.

God Bless America

REPORT: SYRIANS DON’T WANT AMERICAN INTERVENTION

You’ve Read The News - Now Understand It

Elizabeth Blade, Israel Today The entire world is counting the minutes until September 9th when the US Congress is expected to reconvene in order to decide the fate of Syria, either banning or approving a US strike against Syrian government targets, following an alleged chemical attack that killed more than a thousand people.

Israel Today spoke to Yelena Gromova, a Russian journalist residing in Damascus, who presents another angle to the complicated Syrian saga.

US claims about an alleged chemical attack seem suspicious. At the same time, even the supporters of Syria’s President Bashar Al Assad (like Iran) acknowledge the fact. Who should people believe?

The attack did take place. But it wasn’t carried out by the party that the US and its allies are trying to accuse. On the first day of the attack, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Aleksander Lukashevich, announced that according to the information possessed by the Russian authorities “in the early morning of August 21st a makeshift rocket was launched from the areas occupied by the militant [rebel] forces.”

Anyone who doesn’t want to speculate on the subject knows that the chemical attack was carried out by the rebels. Other claims are no more than deceitful accusations aimed at discrediting the Syrian authorities. Those countries who are now blaming Syria have always actively supported those [Islamist] militants. This makes them partners in crime and therefore they should be held responsible for the blood of all those victims, including children.

It looks as if Russia is not going to interfere in the US-Syria conflict. This is despite the fact that Russia is one of Syria’s main allies. What’s going on? Did Russia get scared understanding that it's incapable of facing the US military?

Of course, it could have acted more vigorously like the Soviet Union did at the time of the Cuban missile crisis [of 1962]. But Russia provides Syria with serious diplomatic assistance. The mere fact that no American bombs have landed on Syrian soil so far is primarily Russia’s doing. Russian diplomats might be thinking that it’s better not to provoke Washington right now [in order not to trigger an escalation of tensions], but if the war does eventually erupt, I am convinced that Russia will be able to find the necessary leverage to stop it.

Knowing the psychology of the Syrian people, what do you think the West can expect from them in the event of an attack? Is Syrian going to turn into another Afghanistan?

The majority of the Syrian people are not scared. You can hear many Syrians saying: “We’ve been living in war conditions for the past two years, what else can scare us?”

Furthermore, if before there were some people who believed in the righteous cause of the so-called opposition, the situation has now changed. No longer do people believe in the good intentions of the US government or the "opposition," which calls for foreign attacks on its own country.

Syrians don't want the same outcome for their country as what happened in Iraq, and they loathe those who support western aggression against the Syrian government.

Some experts claim that Russia and the US are attempting to split Syria into smaller states (Alawite, Christian, etc.). How realistic are these claims?

Syrians do not want the split. Even the Kurds, who generally supported the idea of separation, are now speaking against it. Of course, Western powers are interested in splitting Syria as they remain loyal to the old Roman tactics of "divide and conquer."

But the Syrians say: “We have been living together for our entire lives. We are one people”. It’s worth mentioning that during Syria’s struggle against French colonialism, France offered to divide Syria into states based on sectarian differences, creating Alawite, Druze and Sunni federations, while giving Lebanon to the Christians. Yet, the leaders of anti-colonial struggle opposed the idea and called on the people to join forces to fight for a united and free Syria.

The representative of Syria in the League of Nations – who was a Christian – rejected claims that the presence of French forces on Syrian territory would protect Christians and announced that Christians and Muslims were one people.

Syrians are brought up on these values and they will do their best to prevent a split from happening.

How many people actually support President Assad and who are these rebels?

When I first came to Syria in 2011 I saw tremendous rallies in support of Assad and his government.

In 2014, Syria is expected to hold presidential elections. If the opposition was so sure of the people's backing, it would have proposed its candidacy and would have used political methods to obtain power, especially given the fact that the new reforms allow that. But the point is that they are afraid of elections. Their only way to assume power is with the help of American military might.

The rebels neglect basic ethical principles, and call on Obama to stage a war against the Syrian people. You can imagine what they will do if they assume power. Look at Libya, where everyone fights everyone. Syrians have to do anything it takes to prevent the Libyan scenario evolving in their country. » Full Article

UNHEARD OF: U.S. DEBT STUCK AT $16.7 TRILLION FOR 109 DAYS!

What Sneaky Tricks
Are Keeping This Clock From Ticking?

Garth Kant, WND There are just 52 days until the United States government runs out of money.

Maybe.

Even the secretary of the Treasury isn’t quite sure.

One thing is certain: With the passing of August, the official accounting of the U.S. debt has remained stuck at exactly $16,699,396,000,000 for another month – and, as of Wednesday, 109 days in a row.

The debt has been frozen at that amount because of an accounting trick Treasury Secretary Jack Lew calls “extraordinary measures.”

Those measures have prevented the government from defaulting on its obligations and allowed it to keep borrowing for 108 days, while keeping the official debt just $25 million below the legal debt limit set by Congress of $16,699,421,000,000.

Join WND’s campaign to stop Washington’s borrowing and spending madness cold!

Out of cash

But Lew knows those extraordinary measures cannot last forever, and the clock is ticking. But Lew doesn’t exactly know when midnight will strike.

One month ago, Lew estimated he could keep borrowing until Oct. 11, the last day Congress is in session before the Columbus Day recess.

But last week, he revised his estimate to an imprecise “middle of October” deadline before the federal government can no longer borrow the money it needs to keep running.

Lew has sent three letters to House Speak John Boehner, R-Ohio, to explain the extraordinary situation since May, when federal borrowing hit the legal debt limit.

The most recent letter, sent Aug. 26, revealed the U.S. will be down to just $50 billion actual cash on hand by the middle of October.

That’s all that will be left to fund Social Security, Medicare, federal employee salaries and other obligations included in the 80 million payments the federal government makes each month.

But it would not be enough.

The latest round of the dilemma began May 17, when Lew wrote to Boehner to inform him, having nearly hit the debt limit, the Treasury Department would begin using more extraordinary measures, such as suspending certain pension contributions, to “free up approximately $260 billion in headroom under the limit.”

How We Got Here

The national debt continues to rise because the U.S. Treasury spends more money than it brings in through taxes, fees and other revenue.

The difference between spending and revenue, or annual deficit, is much smaller this year, but it is still expected to be around $600 billion for the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30.

The U.S. government actually hit its $16.4-trillion debt limit at the end of last year, but the Treasury Department began using the extraordinary measures to help delay default until Congress agreed to suspend the debt limit through May 18.

The next day, the debt limit was raised to almost $16.7 trillion.

Lew then announced a way to allow the government to pay its bills until September.

Taxpayer-owned Fannie Mae would make a one-time dividend payment of nearly $60 billion to the U.S. government.

Thanks to a housing market recovery, the fortunes of the bailed-out housing finance corporation had improved enough to pay the dividend after posting a record first-quarter profit.

Lew had thought the Treasury Department would stop using the extraordinary measures on Aug. 2.

But on that day, he wrote another letter to Boehner, explaining his new estimate was the government would need to keep using the measures until Oct. 11 to keep borrowing without exceeding the legal limit.

Want to stop passing on debt to our children and grandchildren? The only option – the only game in town – is this “No More Red Ink” campaign.

The Politics Of Money

In that letter, Lew also recommended Congress increase the debt ceiling, warning of drastic consequences if it did not do so.

“I respectfully urge Congress to protect America’s good credit and avoid the potentially catastrophic consequences of failing to act by increasing the debt limit in a timely fashion,” Lew wrote.

Then Lew sent Boehner another letter on Aug. 26 saying Treasury could keep borrowing until “the middle of October” and also warning the speaker the government would no longer be able to pay its bills after mid-October unless Congress raised the debt ceiling.

Lew is pleading with lawmakers to raise the debt limit again, because a last-minute deal to do so in 2011 led to the first-ever downgrade of the U.S. credit rating and automatic budget cuts on March 1 known as the sequester.

Analysts fear, if the value of Treasury securities come into question because the U.S. is not paying its bills, the bond and stock markets could dive.

Also looming, the White House and Congress must decide on a separate agreement on how to fund government operations beyond Sept. 30.

Failure to do so could cause a partial government shutdown.

Additionally, many conservatives are pledging to support bills keeping essential operations running while providing no funds for the implementation of Obamacare.

Blame Congress

The White House is blaming government spending on Congress and says it will refuse to even consider adhering to the debt limit.

“We will not negotiate with Republicans in Congress over Congress’ responsibility to pay the bills that Congress has racked up, period,” said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney last week.

Boehner has pledged to support raising the debt ceiling only if accompanied by an even greater amount of cuts in spending, and is predicting “a whale of a fight” with President Obama over the debt ceiling.

“I wish I could tell you it was going to be pretty and polite, and it would all be finished a month before we’d ever get to the debt ceiling. Sorry, it just doesn’t work that way,” Boehner observed.

“If this were easy to do, somebody over the last 20 or 30 years would have gotten it done. We’re going to do it this fall,” he promised.

The Stopped Clock

The public first became aware the debt limit had not officially changed for weeks back in July, when Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., wondered whether the government was “cooking the books.”

As WND reported, when Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke testified before the House Financial Services Committee, Bachmann asked how there could be no increase reported in the total debt when the government was racking up about $4 billion a day in new debt.

When he could not provide an answer and referred her to the Treasury Department, Bachmann wondered if there was a political motive.

“I asked whether the Treasury Department was cooking the federal government’s books as it was reported that the Feds debt balance sheet remained at $16,699,396,000,000 for 56 days straight, presumably so the Treasury Department wouldn’t officially register that once again the Congress had exceeded its legal borrowing limits.”

For it to conveniently stay there for 56 straight days, Bachmann implied, strained credulity.

The lawmaker noted during the hearing the U.S. government added more than $400 million in debt during Bernanke’s appearance alone.

“Knowing that, how could he explain the Treasury balance sheet officially stood still for 56 days? Apparently, ignorance is bliss, for bureaucrats,” she concluded. » Full Article

Senator Cruz: “Obamacare Is The Biggest Job Killer In The Country”

Transcript
RUSH: Senator Cruz, I know you’re limited time here. Thanks very much for joining us. How are you today, sir?

CRUZ: Rush, I’m doing terrific, and it is always a real privilege and honor to join you.

RUSH: Well, I’m glad to have you here. There’s a big argument. Let’s just cut to the chase here on Obamacare. The arguments are: Delay it/defund it. You’re part of the defund it side. You think it can happen via the continuing resolution debate the end of September. The delay crowd and the people opposed to this say, “No, no, no! A government shutdown’s part of this and look what happened the last time the government was shut down in ’95. Look what happened to Republicans then.” How do you deal with this? What do you tell people that raise these objections?

CRUZ: Well, part of the problem with the delay crowd is they don’t have a plan to actually get it done. When they say they want to delay it, what they really mean is they want to take a symbolic vote on a delay but not tie it to anything that has to pass. So the House can take a thousand symbolic votes if they want. Harry Reid will not allow any of them to pass into law. So it becomes an exercise of just political cover rather than actually fixing the problem.

Look, Rush, Obamacare, as you know, is the biggest job killer in the country, and the wheels are falling off of this thing. I mean, there is bipartisan agreement it’s not working. The unions are jumping ship. People are losing their jobs. They’re having their hours forcibly reduced. Just last week UPS told 18,000 employees, “You’re losing your spousal coverage. Your husbands and wives are losing their health insurance because of Obamacare.”

And unfortunately right now, Republicans are still not ready to stand up and do what it takes to stop this law, to listen to the American people and say, “Listen, let’s get rid of this job killer.” The only plan that has been put forward that has any realistic prospect of success, of actually stopping Obamacare, is using the continuing resolution on September 30th and saying, “We will not fund one penny of Obamacare.”

If we can get 41 Republicans in the Senate to do that, or 218 Republicans in the House, we have the votes to do it, but we gotta get those votes — and right now, far too many Republicans are scared of this fight. » Read Full Transcript At ‘The Rush Limbaugh Show’

Momentum Builds In Congress To Defund Health-Care Law

Problem #28, Death panels confirmed: Physician and former DNC Chairman Howard Dean wrote an editorial in July essentially confirming Sarah Palin’s contention that Obamacare will have a “death panel.” Palin was excoriated for her assertion by the administration and the mainstream media. PolitiFact.com even dubbed it 2009's “Lie of the Year.” But Dean confirmed the Independent Payment Advisory Board, or IPAB, “is essentially a health-care rationing body” that will “be able to stop certain treatments its members do not favor by simply setting rates to levels where no doctor or hospital will perform them.” The rationing board will decide whether or not some patients get potentially life-saving treatments, which is basically how Palin described “death panel” in her 2009 Facebook post.

REMEMBERING NON-REVISED HISTORY: SEPTEMBER 5, 2013

Ronald Wilson Reagan
Fortieth President of the United States (1981–1989)
33rd Governor of California (1967–1975)
Radio, Film and Television Actor

On ‘God v Communism/Socialism’

Biography
Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was the 40th President of the United States (1981–1989). Prior to that, he was the 33rd Governor of California (1967–1975), and a radio, film and television actor. As president, Reagan implemented sweeping new political and economic initiatives. His supply-side economic policies, dubbed "Reaganomics", advocated reducing tax rates to spur economic growth, controlling the money supply to reduce inflation, deregulation of the economy, and reducing government spending. In his first term he survived an assassination attempt, took a hard line against labor unions, and ordered an invasion of Grenada. He was re-elected in a landslide in 1984, proclaiming that it was "Morning in America". His second term was primarily marked by foreign matters, such as the ending of the Cold War, the 1986 bombing of Libya, and the revelation of the Iran-Contra affair. Publicly describing the Soviet Union as an "evil empire", he supported anti-communist movements worldwide and spent his first term forgoing the strategy of détente by ordering a massive military buildup in an arms race with the USSR. Reagan negotiated with Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev, culminating in the INF Treaty and the decrease of both countries' nuclear arsenals.

Reagan left office in 1989. In 1994, the former president disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease earlier in the year; he died ten years later at the age of 93. A conservative icon, he ranks highly in public opinion polls of U.S. Presidents and is credited for generating an ideological renaissance on the American political right. » Full Bio

First Session Of Continental Congress Convenes

America’s Christian Heritage

The opening prayer session of the First Continental Congress lasted approximately 3 hours. Afterwards they read several Psalms from the Bible before opening up legislative proceedings.

On this day in 1774, in response to the British Parliament's enactment of the Coercive Acts in the American colonies, the first session of the Continental Congress convenes at Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia. Fifty-six delegates from all of the colonies except Georgia drafted a declaration of rights and grievances and elected Virginian Peyton Randolph as the first president of Congress. Patrick Henry, George Washington, John Adams and John Jay were among the delegates.
