SERMON NOTES
Pastor Andrew Russell preaches on 2 Thessalonians 1:1-5. Paul’s greeting in this Epistle is identical to the one in the first Epistle, with the exception that the words “from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” are added here. The prayer of thanksgiving is also very similar to the one in I Thessalonians, the only difference being that there other churches testified to the solidity of the faith of the Thessalonians, while here it is Paul who boasts about their faith to other churches. Paul loved to use the example of believers in one place for the encouragement of believers in another. Writing to the Corinthians, for instance, he stated: “And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.
